Common Use: Sumac is used in everything from dry rubs, marinades, and dressing and is delicious sprinkled over salads, on hummus, or rice. I
t is a widely used spice in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cooking and is the key ingredient in the spice blend Za-atar.
2 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
1-2Tbsp of ground Sumac berry
1 Tbsp each of ground Cumin and ground Coriander
1 Tbsp each of ground Thyme, Oregano, and Marjoram
Combine all in a blender or use mortar & pestle and add salt and pepper to taste
Storage: Store in a cool, dry location in a sealed container. Za-atar will keep fresh in a sealed container for at least 3 months.
